Artist Statement
My work is made from strips of painted canvas, that are knotted and placed in conversation with the ground.
Colour, surface and the physical gesture of the knot are in constant dialogue within the work. Working within a restricted palette, I am drawn to the sensitivity and subtlety that intentional colour relationships produce. Restriction creates a small world. Within that small world a universe of incremental differences that are endlessly fascinating opens up.
The structure of the work anchors my intention. The knots serve to disrupt this, and become active participants in the work. It is in the meeting of these parts, in the surprise of what emerges, that the work becomes whole.
